Are you still conducting interviews during COVID?
Yes - all interviews and recruitment are still occurring! Everything has been modified to a virtual format, so you can still complete interviews from your home.
What will I be asked to do?
As a part of our study, you will participate in two interviews. The first interview will take about two hours to complete and the second will take about 1.5 hours. Also, you may choose to participate in an optional two-session intervention (The Coparenting Checkup) aimed at helping you and your child’s other parent learn more about your co-parenting style and potential ways that it could be improved.
What if the other parent and I do not want to be interviewed together, or are not currently in a romantic relationship?
You can still participate! Parents will be interviewed separately and do not have to be romantically involved. Parents who are not romantically involved can still participate in the Coparenting Check-up together - it is customized to each set of parents’ unique situation.
What types of questions will I be asked?
At each interview, you will complete questions about you, your child, and your child’s other parent. You will also complete questions about being a parent, your co-parenting relationship, the involvement of your family in your life, and your experiences of psychological distress.
Where will the study take place?
All interviews will be conducted in a private room at a community location convenient for you, including your home, local schools, clinics, or service agencies. Every effort will be made to meet you at the location that is most convenient for you. The Coparenting Checkup will take place at The George Washington University (located NW Washington, DC in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood). This was the procedure for our interviews when there was no pandemic. During COVID, everything will occur virtually.
What are the benefits?
You will earn gift cards after each interview. Also, you may learn more about yourself and your co-parent. You may also find ways of dealing with various relationship and parenting situations in positive ways that improve the quality of your parenting styles, relationships, father involvement, and your child’s well-being.
